So it has now been almost a month since the App store went live. I have installed, uninstalled. re-installed. Restored, and then re-installed several different apps. But only a few remain on my iPod. I have listed for you the top five I feel are worth a download and the price is right FREE!
- Zenbe Lists. This a great to-do list application. The beauty of this application is once you register on the Zenbe Lists website, you can sync your list between the app, and the website. The list is also viewable offline so you can still view item even when you are not connected to the Internet. It is great to use a shopping list for this purpose. So when the the wife calls and says “Can you please pick up …. on the way home” just tell her to go to the Zenbe webiste and type it instead of saying it. Sync Zenbe lists and you are all set.

- pearMe. From pearworks software. This is matching game. You know the simple match two of the same pictures to continue. This game is that but the twist is you can use photos from your own photo library. As well you can choose the umber of pairs you have to match. Great little time waster and way to be interactive with your photo library

- Stanza. From Lex Cycle software. Ever since I got my Ipod Touch I have searched high and low for a ebook reader. I longed for the days gone of reading books on my portable device, as I used to on my palm pilot. Every ebook reader I tried since I got my iPod touch seemed to have fallen short until Stanza. Stanza is unique in that it can downlad books from an established online catalog. The online books are classics and free texts. The interface is nice, scrolling through a book is quick and painless, you swipe to the right to turn the page, and books open fast. All books can be read offline and you can adjust the size, and type of font. The colours for background and text. You can also sync your own books to your ipod via desktop client. However, currently there is no Windows client but it is currently being worked on. The windows client has been released. Grab it from here

- NetNewsWire. From News Gator. Much like the search for an ebook reader, I have looked high and low for a decent RSS reader for the ipod touch. I found one in the way of NetNewsWire. After creating an account on the News Gator site, add your RSS feeds or use the preselected ones, open your NetNewsWire client put in your username and password and feeds selected on the website will start downloading to your ipod. Also if your list is quite long on the website you can specifically choose which feeds will be synced with your ipod. All feeds can be read offline, and the great thing is all the feeds stay in sync so when something is read either on the ipod or the website it is marked as read across all devices. The best part about this app is the fact you do not have to manually enter feeds on the ipod, you do it on the website. This was always one of my pet peeves when it came to RSS readers on the ipod touch.

- Auora Feint. Auora Feint website. This is a fantastic puzzler. The premise is something along the lines of bejeweled in you have to match three or more similar tiles, either vertically or horizontally. you can only move the tiles left or right. This may sound like many puzzlers along the same vein but the devlopers have introduced a roleplaying element in that you build up your charcter by clearining lines which unlocks specific quests which can help you unlock magic powers which can be used during gameplay. Another cool element is when you tilt your phone in landscape view the board tilts and you can play it in landscape! Hard to believe this awesome title is free but it is so I would grab it before the developers come to their senses and start charging for it, and compared to some of the junk they are charging for in the app store I would glady pay for this app.
